Data + Economy

The Growth of East Africa's Data Economy

Digital data — collected from calls, texts, browsing, mobile money, and more — is now among the world’s most valuable commodities. In East Africa, it is remaking industries from finance to agriculture. This roundtable brings together leading experts on the growth of East Africa’s data economy to examine how data is being used, where value is being found, and what sorts of economic opportunities and risks it portends. What are the implications for enterprises, employment, competitiveness, and industrial policy?

Roundtable participants include:

  • Prof. Bitange Ndemo, University of Nairobi;
  • Alice Munyua, Mozilla;
  • Jumanne Mtambalike, Sahara Ventures;
  • Mercy Ndegwa, Facebook; and
  • Mercy Mutemi, Mutemi Sumbi Law (chair).

Please join us on 1 September @ 15:00-16:30 East Africa Time (13:00-14:30 BST).
